Nayana Morag

Nayana Morag, the founder of Essential Animals and head teacher, is a qualified Animal (and human) Aromatherapist and Master Herbalist. She is also trained in kinesiology and has post-graduate certificates in 5 Element Theory and Aromatic Energetics, Equine Acupressure and natural nutrition. She has been teaching about essential oils for animals since 2000, lecturing worldwide to vets, trainers and animal lovers of all kinds. Combining her varied skills and the understanding that reducing stress is essential for health, she developed Animal PsychAromatica. A completely holistic animal wellness system.

She is the author of “Essential Oils for Animals: Your complete guide to using aromatherapy for natural animal care and management”, “The Aromatic Dog” and “The Aromatic Cat”. She has a passion for helping humans and other animals understand each other better, so they can live in harmony and health.

Nayana makes her home in Portugal, where she lives what she teaches every day. She has created a dream environment for her herd of 9 horses, 3 dogs and 3 cats, where they can roam freely and select their medicine every day. She learns something new every day through observing their interactions with nature and the aromatic plants that abound at Over the Edge Farm.

The Academy

Nayana launched the first certificate course in Animal PsychAromatica in 2006. Since then she has traveled the world teaching this unique animal wellness system, but with the growth of the internet it seemed obvious she should cut down on air miles and go “online”. Our focus is on well-presented, personally mentored courses that empower you to care for the animals you love or work with, naturally. Every course is carefully designed to give you practical skills, presented in video, audio and text format for easy learning. Respecting an animal’s right to choose and express his preferences around healing underlie all our courses, whether that be aromatics or acupressure. We also respect the plants we use and encourage the sustainable and sensitive use of all essential oils and aromatic medicine. Our outlook is truly holistic, you, the human, are an important part in your animals’ health, so we encourage you to take care of yourself and grow your awareness and sensitivity through being with your animals.

What Motivates Us?

We love animals, we love the natural way, and live it every day. We love to share this passion with you. But most of all, we want to see animals and their people live healthy, happy lives, in harmony with nature.

We want everyone who works with animals to explore the safe, natural options that are available to them, and discover how essential oils can enhance any healing modality.

We aim to empower you with knowledge, so you can be a pro-active participant in your animal’s health. Our courses are designed to put your animals well-being back in your hands, using the powerful plant medicine that is our natural birthright. We also encourage deeper understanding of your animals’ natural needs, so you can reduce stress to a minimum. We pride ourselves in being experts in Europe when it comes to essential oils for animal welfare.

Foundations of Aromatic Wellness

Animals have an innate ability to know what they need for balance in their lives and everything we do is based on animals self-selecting their own remedies (zoopharmacognosy). We believe that we, as guardians, must listen to what animals have to say and respect their wishes. We also believe that animals have a lot to teach humans and we seek to deepen and broaden this understanding through courses and workshops.

We believe that reducing stress leads to healthy animals, who learn more easily. To reduce stress, animal guardians need to understand the basic requirements of the species/breed, provide a suitable environment, and a species-appropriate diet. Understanding why animals behave as they do is the key to living together happily.

Giving animals choices in their life is the first step in stress reduction. Offering aromatics for self-selection is a simple way to let your animals know, “I hear you”. This builds an ever-deepening bond of trust between you and the animals who share your life.
